Stuart's Custom Box

This box was a custom order for a fellow artist.
He does pen and ink drawings and makes business
cards using miniatures of his art. That's what all of
the compartments are for. He's in China at the
moment, so I was able to text him photos. I was
texting him back and forth and it was like he was
next door and not 12,000 miles away.

I am so impressed. I don't know which is better - the creation process or the great photos.

MANY years ago I took a woodworking class at Cerritos College. I loved that class. My project was the generic project - a box. I loved making it and finished it and gave it to my daughter for Christmas that year. In high school, we had an unusual art teacher who taught stuff like tooled leather work - a Bible cover for my sister; a set of ceramic dishes for my other sister, had to create the shape, pour it, then pour the wet clay and fire and glaze; a hammered copper bowl and glazed/fired finish. Then she taught us how to make penuche, Italian fudge. That was the greatest year of my high school career. I envy you your talent and the ability to create such beautiful pieces. :)

We are closer than you thought. I grew up in Westchester and went to Santa Monica City College, then lived in Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach. I also tooled leather and still do. Get your hands back into it if you loved it that much. Good place to start ... there's a Woodworking Show at Cal Expo next weekend ... 7th to 9th of November. Just down the road from you.
